The support is capped at 3 kW. A larger system does not receive additional central CFA beyond that cap.

Group housing societies and resident welfare associations

For eligible common facilities, the scheme provides ₹18,000 per kWp up to 500 kWp, subject to separate conditions and verification. This is distinct from the individual residential CFA above.

CFA is support toward an eligible installation, not an upfront cash payment or a guaranteed discount. Approval, commissioning and disbursement are subject to scheme rules, DISCOM feasibility and verification. Figures apply to eligible residential installations in general-category states, including Maharashtra, and should be re-checked on the official portal before applying.

Eligibility

Who the residential scheme is for.

The scheme is specific to eligible residential grid-connected systems. Owning a roof or having a solar quote is not, by itself, enough.

  • Residential property with a valid electricity connection
  • Ownership of the house or roof where the system will be installed
  • Grid-connected solar system with net metering
  • Eligible domestically manufactured (DCR) solar modules
  • Application through the official National Portal
  • Installation through a National-Portal-registered vendor
  • Compliance with DISCOM feasibility, inspection and commissioning requirements

Application process

From application to subsidy processing.

The sequence below is a general guide. Actual requirements and timelines depend on the portal, DISCOM and your installation.

  1. 01

    Check eligibility

Review the scheme conditions and your electricity connection before starting. Keep a recent electricity bill handy.

  2. 02

    Register on the National Portal

Create an application on the official PM Surya Ghar portal using your consumer details and property information.

  3. 03

    Feasibility & approval

The DISCOM reviews the application and technical feasibility. Approval is not automatic and depends on the connection and site.

  4. 04

    Install through a registered vendor

The system must be installed through a vendor registered on the National Portal, using eligible equipment and the approved configuration.

  5. 05

    Net meter & commissioning

After installation, the net meter and commissioning formalities are completed with the DISCOM as applicable.

  6. 06

    Subsidy processing

Once the installation is verified and the required details are submitted, eligible CFA is processed as per scheme rules.

Prepare ahead

Information usually needed

  • Recent electricity bill and consumer number
  • Applicant identity and contact details
  • Property/roof details for the proposed installation
  • Bank account details for subsidy processing
  • Vendor and system details required by the portal
  • Any additional documents requested by the DISCOM or portal

This is a practical checklist, not an official document list. The National Portal and MSEDCL may ask for additional information.

Subsidy questions

Common questions, direct answers.

Scheme rules can change. The official portal is the final reference for eligibility and current amounts.

Who can apply for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy?

The scheme is for eligible residential consumers. The applicant should own the house, have a valid electricity connection and meet the scheme’s other conditions. Installations must be grid-connected and use eligible domestically manufactured (DCR) modules. Commercial, industrial and agricultural consumers cannot claim this residential subsidy. Confirm the current eligibility rules on the official National Portal before applying.

Is Maharashtra covered by PM Surya Ghar?

Yes. PM Surya Ghar is a national scheme and residential consumers in Maharashtra can apply through the official National Portal. For a grid-connected system, the local distribution company is MSEDCL (Mahavitaran). The general-category central financial assistance figures shown on this page apply, subject to eligibility and scheme rules.

How much subsidy is available for a 5 kW residential system?

The central financial assistance is capped at 3 kW. For a general-category residential installation, that means a maximum of ₹78,000 even if a larger system is installed. Additional capacity above 3 kW does not attract extra central CFA under this scheme. The total project cost is separate and depends on the actual system and site.

Is the subsidy paid in cash before installation?

No. This is not an upfront cash payment or a guaranteed discount. For eligible installations, the subsidy is generally credited to the beneficiary’s bank account after installation, net-metering and commissioning, subject to verification and scheme rules. Be cautious of anyone promising an assured amount or asking for a fee to “release” subsidy.

What does DCR mean?

DCR stands for domestically manufactured. Under the scheme, eligible solar modules must meet the domestic content requirement. The exact requirement should be confirmed with the vendor and on the official portal, because non-DCR modules can affect subsidy eligibility.

Can I get the subsidy for a commercial, agricultural or off-grid system?

No. The PM Surya Ghar central financial assistance discussed here is for eligible residential grid-connected systems. Commercial and industrial systems are not covered. Agricultural and off-grid systems are also outside this residential CFA. Any other scheme, such as PM-KUSUM for certain agricultural requirements, has separate eligibility and should be verified independently.

Does the subsidy cover batteries or backup equipment?

The central financial assistance is linked to eligible residential solar capacity under the scheme. Battery storage and backup equipment are separate scope items and may not be covered by the CFA. Their cost and suitability should be discussed separately from the subsidy calculation.

Can Rajput Electrical Agency guarantee my subsidy?

No. We can explain the scheme and help you understand the steps, but approval depends on eligibility, DISCOM feasibility, installation through a National-Portal-registered vendor, inspection and scheme rules. We do not claim official vendor registration or guarantee a subsidy amount. Always verify the vendor’s registration status on the official portal.

Please verify before you apply.

This page is an explanatory summary, not an official government notification or a guarantee of subsidy. Eligibility, amounts, documents and process can change. Always check the latest information on the PM Surya Ghar National Portal and confirm requirements with MSEDCL before making a payment or commitment.
